OUR
STORY

Therapist Jane Mapenzi established SUMAYA to tackle the inequality in access to mental health services. Through the use of short films, our goal is to increase understanding and provide education on mental health issues to the community. This initiative is being implemented in collaboration with award-winning filmmaker Esther K Sammy.

OUR
MISSION
.

"An estimated 1 in 4 persons suffer from mental health disorders in Uganda" -  Dr Juliet Nakku, ED of Butabika Hospital

Due to a lack of awareness and limited access to health facilities and support, many Africans more so Ugandans, find themselves treading the dangerous waters of mental health challenges without any help or system to guide them through.

Our mental health-themed film series hopes to change this narrative country-wide by equipping the populace with the information they need in order to fight a wining battle against poor mental health, and addiction diseases.
